“Best Practices” Under Attack

Best Practices Under Attack

Referring to my Essay #4 in this series:  Cockeyed BC Education

Leveling the Playing Field: Professors Inform Teachers 365/24/7

I’ve been following since 1972 the BCTF capture of the education field in BC. However, a new curve came up which causes me to point to a connection to teachers of teachers guiding the intelligentsia of a new movement.  No wonder this new ideological thrust and its handlers wish to exclude nosy parents and critical newspaper reporters from its inner workings….anyway, my Essay #4 traces a “blurt” — an angry remark from a teacher at their AGM (Mar/09) railing against “best practices” as being an assault on teacher rights and autonomy… I wondered, where did this come from….remembered reading a speech from the UBC Dean of Education, also railing (22 times!) in his presentation against “best practices”….I guess this is in accord with attacks on “evidence-based research” where ideology trumps – ideology first, then we’ll consider “best practices” and “evidence-based research”….The Deans of Canada are signing their own Accord, a family compact (are there any abstainers?) to transform communities through training of teachers to be social and political activists…see Accord:  http://www.csse.ca/CADE/TeacherAccord.pdf
